The Citizens Against Government Waste released a book entitled 2019 Congressional Pig Book that identified millions of taxpayer dollars allegedly spent on items that are least likely to serve the American people, according to Fox News. “There was $9 million spent to quarantine fruit flies and over $13 million to manage wild horses,” read excerpts from the book.
The report identified other pricey items such as $65 million spent to help recover Pacific Coastal Salmon and $12 million to control aquatic plants, to name only a couple. The findings of the group that revealed the governments egregious spending led to their advocating to enact a permanent statutory ban on earmarks. According to Fox News, the group blames the increase in spending on the passage of the Bipartisan Budget Act in 2018, which ended the 2011 spending restraints.
