Democrats are steaming mad with a new bill signed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott that provides religious protections for companies, according to CNN. The controversial bill was nicknamed “Save-Chick-fil-A” as a result of the chain coming under fire for providing charitable donations to religious organizations that oppose same-sex marriage.
Democrats argue that the bill will only encourage discrimination to those in the LGBTQ community. The bill itself, known as Senate Bill 1978, prohibits the government from taking adverse action against any individual or business based on membership, support or donations to religious groups.
When asked if the chain was in any way responsible for the signing of the bill, Chick-fil-A denied any involvement. Many of the supporters of the bill claim that this will protect the religious liberties of all individuals and businesses.
