Rhonda Mengert is a Nevada native who is currently suing the Transportation Security Administration after officers allegedly made her disrobe waist down and show her maxi pad in a private room, according to The Washington Examiner. After Mengert’s hip implant set off the metal detector, she was patted down and then asked to go into a private room where the officers told her to take off her pants and underwear and show them the item that they believed to be a weapon.
When they saw it was a maxi pad, they allowed her to leave. “It was degrading,” Mengert said of the experience. Mengert is suing TSA for severe emotional distress and the violation of her rights. When asked about the pending lawsuit, TSA stated that they could not comment on pending litigation and that strip searches were not a part of their safety procedures.
