Migrants continue in their attempts to escape into the United States by any means possible. Recently, border agents apprehended 1,036 migrants near El Paso, Texas, according to NBC News. The roundup was the largest apprehension for the border agents, with their last apprehension totaling only around 400. A trend is occurring where many migrants are traveling in large numbers, which is partly the reason border patrol were able to find and arrest the immigrants in such a large number.
“Safety in numbers” is the reason behind such large groups, according to immigration advocates. “The journey is treacherous, and it is believed that traveling in larger numbers as a group is much safer for all involved,” stated one advocate. The large number of immigrants attempting to sneak into the United States will continue to grow, according to one DHS official. “The agency expects May to breach 120,000 in the number of immigrants apprehended and deemed inadmissible,” stated the official when asked about the growing trend and its ramifications.
