After Trump’s meeting with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, the mainstream media and many RINOs believed the duo had successfully boxed the president in a corner.
They gleefully proclaiming that if the president made good on his promise to shut the government down he would be blamed for the shutdown. In fact, it would be dubbed as the “TRUMP SHUTDOWN.”
However Schumer along with the leftist media forgot a fundamental lesson regarding this anomaly currently occupying the Oval Office, Trump isn’t a politician — he’s lived all of his life in the “real world” where all of Americans actually reside.
Even disgruntled progressives, who hate Trump, understand that Washington is a dysfunctional place where dysfunctional political bureaucrats like Pelosi and Schumer constantly use hyperbole until few take what they say seriously.
The over-the-top headlines on CNN, MSNBC and other mainstream outlets proclaiming the “GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN” isn’t actually a “GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN” in that over 75% of the government is functioning at this very moment.
Moreover what is important to Trump supporters is that this President is a man of his word, not interested in playing Washington games, and the reason why he was elected.
Ned Ryun, a former speechwriter for George W. Bush and the founder of a conservative organization that trains young political activists to become involved in local politics, recently wrote an op-ed article for Fox News.
In the article, he detailed the battle taking place in Washington between the radical left and traditional conservatives regarding immigration and the wider issue of border security.
He specifically cites within his article the effect of having a border wall; “In 2006, Chuck Schumer, along with Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Joe Biden, voted for the funding of the Yuma Sector Wall, which after being built decreased the crossings in that sector by over 90%.”
Adding; “Now the hard-left open border-types have seized control of the Democratic Party. No one in leadership can be seen voting for building a wall: it would be sacrilegious to the left and potentially a career-ending move. Never mind the fact that in so doing the Democratic Party leadership has demonstrated very clearly it’s not interested in prioritizing the interests of the American taxpayer.”
Ryun continues within his op-ed reminding his readers that the American taxpayer is on the hook for about $116 to 134 billion annually in support of illegal immigration. Moreover, a new study just released reveals that over 60% of none-citizens (half illegal) are on some type of welfare program.
The conservative author appeared on “Fox and Friends Saturday” where he reiterated the current political posturing being played out in Washington, doubling down suggesting that the President should hold firm on the shutdown, even if it should go beyond January into February, stating that both sides need to claim victory to their base.
Ryun was then asked by one of the Fox hosts, what the outcome may finally end up looking like, he predicted that the President would likely settle for about $4.5 billion for the wall.
To put things into proper perspective every modern-day President with the exception of President George W. Bush, presided over a government shutdown. In fact, President Reagan was responsible for 8, which is the current record.
The Partial government shutdown affects only about 25% of the government, which is roughly about 800,000 individuals.
The Cabinet-level departments closing are Agriculture, Commerce, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Justice, State, Transportation, and Treasury.
However essential personnel are still required to work without pay. Nearly 90% of the Homeland Security staff is deemed essential.
The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will remain open, as well as TSA, air traffic controllers and border security agents. However, their paychecks will be put on hold, until the entire government is once again “open-for-business and President Trump gets his funding for the wall.
