An interesting dispute now exists as to whether the copy of the speech Nancy Pelosi tore up was in fact an official copy that the President presented to the House itself when handing it to its presiding officer. If that copy held that status, then the Speaker stands in violation of Title 18 USC Section 2071 paragraph b: destruction of a public record by its custodian. That is punishable by immediate relief from office and permanent injunction against the holding of any other office–and fine, imprisonment, or both.

But she cannot dispute that she brought scandal and disrepute upon the House. Furthermore, she premeditated her act. We have video evidence that she was pre-tearing the pages at their edges while the President was speaking.

Rep. Matt Gaetz, I believe, filed charges last week before the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct.
