Today I read the first part of Genesis, Matthew, Psalms, and Proverbs. Every day this year, I will read a selection of text from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs. By the end of the year, I will have read the Holy Bible in its entirety.
There are many reading plans available. My favorite is a Bible that is printed into daily readings with the selections organized under each date. This makes it super easy to just flip to today’s date and read a few pages, rather than search through both Testaments of a regular Bible to find the day’s reading. This Bible also has a pretty pink cover, which is nice.
I’ve read through the Bible three times, and each time reveals new insight. Different seasons of life cause different sections of the Good Book to speak to me. Sometimes, just familiarizing myself with the order of the books is the closeness I gained to God that day. Other times, a few verses cause such a strong emotional reaction that I find myself close to tears.
I’m excited to discover what God has in store for my spiritual growth during this year’s Bible reading. The stories and people of the Bible become like old friends. I look forward to revisiting with Adam and Eve in the Garden tomorrow.
