Tallahassee police were called to a Taco Bell after a woman was doused in gasoline and set on fire, according to NBC News. The unidentified woman was airlifted to a hospital with critical injuries, according to a statement by Officer Rachelle Denmark. The employees described the incident as frightening and attempted to provide the police with a description of the individual who committed the crime.
Authorities initially described the suspect, 32-year-old Mia Williams, as a man, the Tallahassee Democrat reported. However, police now say Williams “identifies as a female.”
The suspect immediately fled the scene after setting the victim on fire and has yet to be captured by police. The crime has been classified as aggravated battery and is currently being investigated by the police in Tallahassee, the Florida fire marshal, and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
