Some people can look back and remember a lesson at school or college that changed their life. For one little girl in Ohio, this lesson came sooner than anyone would have thought.
Zaiouli Wilson, 6 years old at the time, knew just what to do when flames broke out at her home in the middle of the night. She took refuge in her home’s basement — something she remembered from a fire safety class taught by her teacher Barb Fisher less than a month earlier.
Firefighters said Zaiouli likely wouldn’t have lived had she not headed for the basement. Even so, Zaiouli suffered from complications related to severe smoke inhalation. Thankfully she made a full recovery.
