Remember when supermodels made millions of dollars for merely having photos taken of them in designer gear? Well, those days might soon be ending thanks to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computer generated models that are now beginning to redefine what a model looks like and how human she or he can be.
In this video, you will be introduced to the latest hot models who are gaining popularity online and are getting the big contracts with some of the best designers. There is one catch, however…they aren’t human. The models were created by a guy online who designed them from top to bottom, just to see how people would react to them. One of his designs has acquired hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram and the other has been used to model clothing from some of the biggest designers in the business.
Although the creator of the models claims that this will not replace models, one can easily dispute that. First, if designers can find a way to use models to show off their clothing to the population without paying them millions of dollars to do so, they will take advantage of that. Second, the utilization of computer generated models will save designers and print advertisers the headache of dealing with the attitudes of models, the schedules of models, and the transportation involved with getting models from one location to another. I’m not in the industry and I already see how this can serve as a benefit to someone—other than the model.
AI is seemingly slowly taking over a number of jobs, unfortunately. Positions like bartenders, delivery drivers, clerks, and a host of other person-held positions are becoming obsolete in some areas and are now being replaced by actual robots or computers. This is probably why many college students are shaking in their boots. To know that you have just graduated with your medical transcribing degree only to find out that the industry has replaced you with a robot can be pretty cruel. Although computers tend to make life more convenient, it would be a reality viewed through tunnel vision if one ignored how that same convenience comes at a nasty price. Unfortunately, we humans are the ones who will have to pay.
