Due to vaping-related illnesses and deaths, Governor Charlie Baker ordered a four-month ban on the sale of all vaping products in Massachusetts, according to The Boston Globe. The ban on vaping products included both tobacco and marijuana products that were used alongside vaping products. “We don’t have time to wait,” stated Baker on why he forced the ban without first discovering if the illnesses were the result of vaping ingredients or vaping product malfunctions.
“People are getting sick and the time to act is now,” Baker continued. “I can assure you that these products are not safe,” stated pediatric pulmonologist Dr. Alicia Casey. “This ban is a critical and necessary step to combating this epidemic of youth vaping,” she continued. Baker is also deciding if he and his administration should file further regulations or legislation in an effort to reshape the investigation into the cause of the illnesses that resulted from vaping.
