The Newark Liberty International Airport received a jolt of fear when an Alaska Airlines employee set off alarms and yelled “evacuate” to passengers after seeing two men who looked suspicious.
According to CNN, the employee walked toward two men who she felt looked suspicious, and prior to her approaching them, they both began to run. Once the men ran, the employee screamed at a high pitch “evacuate,” and then hit an alarm. Nearly 200 passengers ran in different directions, and according to one witness, the frenzy got worse when someone broke glass.
It was assumed that the broken glass occurred during the mass exodus of the passengers in the gate. It was discovered later that the two men were both identified, questioned, and released with no charges. “There is no danger to anyone at the airport and the situation is under control,” stated Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Steve Coleman.
