Unfortunately, there are many teachers out there who only care about collecting their paychecks. They either lost their desire to add value to a child by teaching them, or they never had the desire to begin with. There are many teachers who simply show up to work, pass out a worksheet, and then sits at his or her desk until the bell rings.
Here you have a young student who was apparently fed up with his teacher simply showing up and sitting out the rest of the class period. The student even calls the teacher out for saying that she only showed up to collect a paycheck. This is sad, given the fact that we rely on our teachers to educate our young people. Then again, if we truly cared about our children being educated, we would fight for teachers to have greater pay.
So, who’s right and who’s wrong here? Should a teacher receive the same amount of money that we pay our celebrities or sports figures? Should we treat teachers better than we treat those who merely entertain us? Shouldn’t we value the teachers who are ensuring that our young people will be better prepared for tomorrow?
Also, shouldn’t we care that the education that our children receive will provide them with the opportunity to lead the nation onto a brighter path? These are questions that seemingly never get answered because society already knows the truth.
We treat our teachers with little respect because we refuse to respect the work that they do. Then, when our teachers become frustrated, we blame them for being lazy. At some point, we must stop and recognize how much teachers are worth in the United States so that we can ensure that we not only hire the best teachers, but that they will do everything necessary to teach our young people the best way possible.
