Michigan is now the first state to make illegal the selling of flavored vape products both online and retail, according to the Detroit Free Press. The ban was imposed by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and came from Michigan’s administrative rules process which allows the state to create policies that can act as a law.
“As governor, my number one priority is keeping our kids safe,” stated Gov. Gretchen Whitmore in her attempt to explain how the decision was aimed to protect youth. “Right now, companies selling vaping products are using candy flavors to hook children on nicotine and that ends today. Our kids deserve leaders who are going to fight to protect them,” Whitmore continued. The ban will not be extended to vaping products that are unflavored or tobacco flavored.
