Social media has given chocolate giant Cadbury major backlash over their new candy bar which features dark, blended, milk, and white chocolate in its effort to promote diversity in India, according to Fox News. The chocolate bar was introduced to celebrate India’s Independence Day with a statement that also celebrated the different colors of people, but instead, the effort was met with anger.
“This is everything wrong with diversity,” tweeted one person. “I would rather see a range where you don’t know what you’re going to get, but it’s going to taste amazing whatever it is,” they continued. “You would THINK if they were going for unity, that all of the types would be interspersed instead of segregated from light to dark,” tweeted dissatisfied person. The advertising agency working with Cadbury stated that the purpose of the chocolate was to send a powerful message of unity by having all of the different colors together under one wrapper.
