The FBI intelligence bulletin from the bureau’s Phoenix field office now considers conspiracy theories as a domestic terrorist threat. “Conspiracy theory-driven domestic extremists are a growing threat,” according to the document. “The FBI assesses these conspiracy theories very likely will emerge, spread, and evolve in the modern information marketplace, occasionally driving both groups and individual extremists to carry out criminal or violent acts,” the document continues.
In an attempt to identify who might be considered guilty of being a threat, the FBI stated that they were considering the cover-ups that involve illegal, harmful, or unconstitutional activities by government officials or leading political figures. Although the FBI did not mention specific names of individuals within the political arena that they might target, Trump was mentioned alongside QAnon, which the FBI considered the “Q” to be a government official “who posts classified information online to reveal a covert effort.”
