Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is being sued in federal court for blocking users on Twitter based on their personal comments, according to Fox News. The lawsuit was filed by former Democratic New York Assemblyman Dov Hikind who claimed that Ocasio-Cortez blocked him on Twitter because his critique of her tweets and policies were a bit too harsh.
“Just today the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed a ruling that elected officials cannot block individuals from their Twitter accounts, thereby setting a precedent that Ocasio-Cortez must follow,” Hike said in a statement after filing the suit in the Eastern District of New York. “Twitter is a public space, and all should have access to the government officials on it,” he continued. He accused Ocasio-Cortez of acting cowardly and silencing him, along with other public officials on Twitter. “I’m looking forward to the day where she has to unblock me so that free speech in America is guaranteed even when it offends!” he stated further.
