It would appear that Stacey Abrams and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have a lot more in common than simply being progressive charismatic Democratic woman of color.
They apparently now also share being investigated by their respective State Ethics Commission boards for financial campaign violations.
We already know the ethics violation filed against AOC with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), alleging that her campaign manager siphoned almost 1 million dollars in contributions from donors, “parking” those funds into two private companies under the pretext of “strategic consulting.”
Now we learn that 2018 gubernatorial hopeful Stacy Abrams is under investigation by the Georgia State Ethics Commission for a similar violation as AOC.
David Emadi, the new director of the state Ethics Commission, announced on Thursday that he would soon subpoena bank records from Stacey Abrams’ 2018 gubernatorial campaign along with several other groups that raised money during her failed bid for the governorship.
“What I can say about the investigation into the Abrams campaign is in the relatively near future, I expect we will be issuing subpoenas for bank and finance records of both Miss Abrams and various PACs and special-interest groups that were affiliated with her campaign,” Emadi said to reporters on Thursday
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the former Douglas County prosecutor is also deciding whether to prosecute the campaigns of Atlanta mayoral candidates
However, as of this writing, it’s not exactly clear what Abrams’ is being investigated for specifically.
