Christy Price was mortified after her 16-year-old son was misdiagnosed with the flu by doctors, only to discover that he suffered from a minor cut in his mouth that almost killed him, according to WCNC. Price took her son to Urgent Care in Huntersville after her son showed flu-like symptoms.
Although the doctors told her to provide her son with medication, plenty of fluids and rest, she still noticed that her son’s health began to decline. “He was consistently exhausted and could not do much of anything,” stated Price. She rushed him to the hospital and found that he was diagnosed with endocarditis which doctors felt probably came from a minor cut in her son’s mouth that he received after brushing his teeth and had an infection that went into his bloodstream and attacked his heart.
“He had to have emergency surgery on his heart. They had to remove a mass from his heart valve,” Price said. Her son was released and placed on antibiotics, but Price warns parents to still get their children checked out no matter what the symptoms.
