The police were called on a black man who stood in a Portland hotel lobby while talking on his phone to his mother, according to CNN. Jermaine Massey was in the lobby of the DoubleTree hotel when a security guard approached him and asked him to leave for no apparent reason.
When Massey asked the security officer why he was being told to leave, even though he had shown proof that he was a guest in the hotel, the security guard walked away and called the police. The incident was recorded on video and revealed that the security officer refused to listen to Massey and insisted that he leave the premises.
Once the police arrived, they escorted Massey to his room to collect his things and then escorted him out of the hotel. The hotel later apologized to Massey and placed two of their employees on leave as a result of the incident. Massey is currently filing a lawsuit against the hotel.
