The University of Kent shared data collected in a report showing the amount of Americans who have decided to leave the United States for good.
The study shows that 33.1% of all U.S. citizens are considering leaving the country to live abroad. “Around 49.0% of Americans are leaving their country due to a bad or disappointing situation in the US,” stated one of the researchers, Dr. Helen Marrow of Tufts University. “The largest of those leaving the United States was that of those who want to explore other parts of the world at 87.4%,” she continued.
The study also shared that although the aspiration of US citizens was strongly predicted by national identity, there was no correlation between political ideology and an American’s aspiration to live abroad.
