Silicon Valley billionaire Reid Hoffman recently apologized for funding a disinformation campaign against Alabama Republican Roy Moore in last year’s Senate race against Doug Jones.
The pudgy co-founder of LinkedIn, issued an apology on Wednesday after he admitted funding a group that purposely spread false information that Moore was being supported by Moscow (sounds familiar?).
The group “American Engagement Technologies (AET),” a firm run by Mikey Dickerson a former Obama crony, received $750,000 from Hoffman as part of a disinformation campaign, falsely portraying Moore as a friend of the Kremlin.
Hoffman’s self-serving apology came only after the scam became public knowledge, “I find the tactics that have been recently reported highly disturbing. For that reason, I am embarrassed by my failure to track AET – the organization I did support – more diligently as it made its own decisions to perhaps fund projects that I would reject.”
Adding, “I want to be unequivocal: there is absolutely no place in our democracy for manipulating facts or using falsehoods to gain political advantage.”
